Perfume Diary: Diptyque L'Eau de L'Eau Eau de Cologne
Tuesday, April 29, 2014
Good evening!
Tonight I'm pulling out Diptyque L'Eau de L'Eau from the back of cabinet. To be honest, I didn't think I would ever review this fragrance because I've had it for such a long time (I want to say since 2010, perhaps even longer) and I don't particularly care for it much any more.
There's nothing wrong with L'Eau de L'Eau itself. LdL opens up with citrus and spice. Oh, oh so much spice, quite a bit of ginger and cloves. I'm hesitant to say this but I also get something slightly green and astringent, quite like the green opening of L'Ombre das L'Eau even though they are nothing alike. It's just a very distinct, almost sharp smell. The middle of this scent is a cacophony of notes; I distinctly smell geranium and orange blossom as well as more lemony citrus yet also a bit of cinnamon. The dry down is comforting to me, a scent mixture that I'm more than familiar with; tonka bean, patchouli and benzoin.
For me this fragrance is tied to memories of someone I'm no longer fond of and for that reason alone, no matter how much I used to like this scent it is inexplicably unappealing to me. In my case, the sum of this scent reminds me of an ex and while he never wore this fragrance, I did while I was with him and now my stomach churns when I smell it. Luckily for you, dear reader, you have no such olfactory association.
Also it makes my cat Widget sneeze, so there's that. No seriously, every single time I've worn it recently and approached him, he is overcome in a volatile (but adorable) fit of cat sneezes.
Sillage: Moderate
Longevity: Surprisingly long wearing, considering that it is an EdC. Perhaps a good six or seven hours.
Back into the vault this fragrance goes!

Do you have a favorite or least favorite spicy aromatic fragrance in your life? Or is it a genre of fragrance you don't particularly care for?
