Battle of the Brows: ABH Dipbrow vs Benefit Ka-Brow!

Monday, September 11, 2017

A few weeks ago,  I picked up a Benefit set of brow products for myself when I stopped at Sephora inside JC Penney to grab a gift. The SA informed me that each week, they'll have a spotlight product 50% off. For $17 (actually less, I used my 10% VIB coupon), I found the Bigger & Bolder Brows set to be irresistible. Today I want to compare one of the products inside, a cream-gel brow products called Ka-Brow! and Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow.

It feels like a pot of dried out gel eyeliner. If you've ever had a little glass jar of eyeliner that's gotten to the point where it's hard to coat your brush, you really gotta swipe over and over again to pick up any product, then you'll know exactly what Benefit Ka-Brow feels like. The brush included in the cap of Ka-Brow! is too smudgy for precise control. I don't bother with it, instead I reach for the super stiff Chikuhodo GSN-13.

Left is Ka-Brow!, right is Dipbrow.

Left is Benefit Ka-Brow! in no. 5.  Right is Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade.

Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown is very close in color, perhaps a touch darker than No.5 in Ka-Brow!. It's without a doubt creamier and "wetter" looking when swatched heavily.

Left is Ka-Brow! and right is Dipbrow. Used the same brush for both brows.

Counter intuitively, the waxier, drier Ka-Brow! wasn't as patchy as Dipbrow was. Even though Ka-Brow is a little more work to pick up on your brush, I think it creates a more uniform look. Dipbrow for me is also much easier to accidentally over apply, I sometimes look like I have a little bit of Klingon blood in me. Though it is worth noting that this container of Dipbrow was older (only 1/4 left) so this the dry state, and it's still much wetter than Ka-Brow! new.

In direct sunlight Ka-Brow! no. 5 looks a bit more brown than I usually go for in a brow shade, but I think it's satisfactory and will finish using it. I paid less than the cost of this one item for the whole set, so you won't hear much complaining from me.

Price wise, Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is $18 and carried by Beautylish, Sephora and Ulta.  . Benefit Ka-Brow! is $24 and can be purchased from Ulta or Sephora.

What are you doing for brows these days? Cream/gel product? Pencil? Waxy pomade? Do tell!
