Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Vampira (Also Hello, it's Been a While)

Thursday, November 5, 2015

 Good morning!

It's been a while since I blogged with any regularity. My good friend Gaby gave me some great advice. I'm paraphrasing here, but she told me to do what bring me joy, and to cease that activity when it stopped being a source of enjoyment in my life. I had been blogging for a very, very long time (actually, I think it's my 6 year bloggaversary if I'm not mistaken) and simply put, the joy had all dried out. A break did me good. But now I'm trying to get back into the swing of things.

If you remember way back, I quite like the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. I've reviewed Lolita here and Bachelorette here. I absolutely love that the color is opaque and completely matte, and the formula stays put and doesn't transfer. In fact, just yesterday I was discussing how I wished that this formula trend had been around on our wedding day, because I had to wipe NARS Heat Wave off my new husband after our kiss and a photographer kindly captured that forever on film, hah!

Left to right: NARS Terre de Feu, KVD Vampira, NARS Volga

I thought that it would be more helpful to compare the color to some of the darker lipsticks that I own, rather than the other KVD shades. Above, I've swatched just one layer of Vampira next to the creamy formulations of NARS Terre de Feu and Volga. TdF is more purple and darker, Volga is more berry colored. Vampira can best be described as being the color of dried blood.

I'm in dire need of a haircut, as you can see. This is one... and a half layers of Vampira. One was not quite sufficient, but two was overkill so I waited for the first layer to dry and dabbed a bit more. I find Vampira to be a bit more creamy than the other shades that I've tried. I felt like it never dried completely (though there was no transfer when I drank from a glass or gave a kiss) and was a bit more flexible on my lips than Lolita.

I'm happy that I added this color in a liquid lipstick to my stash. I love vampy colors and definitely prefer the stay put formula of Everlasting Liquid Lipstick over creamy, traditional lipstick that has a frightful tendency to smear or transfer.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are now $20 each and can be purchased at Sephora.

So what beauty trends and products have I missed out on over the last half year? What's new and exciting to you?
