Tatcha Ritual Discovery Kit: Phenomenal For Your Skin
Monday, September 22, 2014
I first read about Tatcha products on Messy Wands a long time ago and Xiao's favorable review kept the brand on my mind ever since. So I must say, I was exceptionally eager to try out the Ritual Discovery Kit for Dry Skin which supplies you with all four steps of the Tatcha Ritual; Pure, Polished, Radiant & Ageless. At first I was quite cautious (as trying four new products all at once seemed like I was just asking for trouble) but I couldn't be more thrilled with the results.
The packaging is beautiful, simple yet elegant. I felt like I was opening a gift from a friend who knew me really well. The attention the detail, the seals on the products, the colors... everything.
The set for Dry skin contains PURE One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder (14 packets), RADIANT Deep Brightening Serum and AGELESS Enriching Renewal Cream in travel sizes. The Normal, Oily and Sensitive kits are slightly different, they contain the SUPPLE Moisture Rich Silk Cream and different enzyme powders that are more suited for each skin type.
PURE One Step Camellia breaks down oil, impurities and makeup very well. I usually use two full pumps to really get all my makeup off. I would describe it as "medium" viscosity compared to the cleansing oils that I've tried. It has a very faint, lovely scent. Instructions indicate that you should massage with dry hands for ten seconds, but I feel like a full minute is needed to really break down all the little hardened sebaceous filaments that I get. It emulsifies nicely quite nicely with water, I like to use it before a shower so that the shower stream rinses it all off. This product was the first to run out in the set, lasting about two and a half weeks with twice daily use.
POLISHED Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder is the next step. Mix the dry powder with warm water and lather it between your hands to get a great foam going. This is my favorite product out of of the four. It is just fantastic! It provides gentle exfoliation, ridding me of my dreadful flaky cheeks and chin without irritating my skin. I use it daily, but only once a day (I tried 2x a day but that felt like a little over zealous). I wouldn't leave it on for too long, one time I absentmindedly left it on my face for close to a minute and it made my skin itch. An unexpected side effect is that my hands were also left super smooth.
I liked the Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder after my very first use. In fact, before my second week of the Ritual was up, I already was so enthused that I went ahead and ordered a full sized jar (60 grams). Each little satchel of the Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder lasted me about 2-3 days, you really don't need much for a good froth!
RADIANT Deep Brightening Serum is vital to replenish the skin after the Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder. It is watery in consistency and my skin absorbed it super fast - be mindful of how much you use or else you'll use up the whole bottle fast! It imparts a light moisture to the skin, no stickiness at all. After using it for a while, I noticed that a lot of acne scars had faded and that my skin was so much less irritated and red overall. This is a really soothing product.
The AGELESS Enriching Renewal Cream is without a doubt, the most moisturizing cream I have ever had the pleasure of putting on my face. Dare I say that it is too moisturizing? What boggles my mind is that the cream itself is not heavy or dense, yet the amount pictured above is how much it takes to flood my face with a surge of moisture. Like the serum, it sinks in so easily and doesn't leave any tackiness or greasiness, but I found that you really need to use less than you think you will. The first few times I used a more liberal amount and found myself thinking after 20 minutes that I applied too much; a little goes a long way. Now I'm curious about the SUPPLE Moisture Rich Silk Cream too and how it differs from this cream.
Overall, I'm astounded with the difference these products have made for me. See, I've had hormonal acne for so long (since like age 9) that I honestly can't remember what it is like to have supple, smooth, skin. After a few days of this skin regime, I found myself wondering - is this what healthy skin feels like? I thought I was using suitable products before, but the difference in my complexion makes me question every product I have ever used. It is like putting on glasses for the first time and realizing that up until then, your vision was awful. I had no idea my face could feel so good and so hydrated.
What's the catch? Well, the prices of each individual product is high, other than an SK-II product I tried years ago and my Clarisonic, I'd say that I've never paid these prices for skin products before. You know what though? I'm more than happy to pay it. It's absolutely worth it for me. I want my skin to look like this every day, the improvement I saw with Tatcha products beats any "bandaid" solution that a slew of primers, foundations, concealers, correctors could provide.
This Ritual Discovery Kit is $59. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone who unsatisfied with their skin. Actually if I could go back in time, I would urge myself to skip every other product that I have used up until now and splurge on Tatcha products instead. They're that good.
