Current Skincare Routine - Spring 2014
Tuesday, April 1, 2014
Good evening folks!
I'll be honest, skincare reviews probably aren't the most exciting posts I have here on the blog, so I'll spice things up tonight. I took ultra sexy pictures of my skincare products. Lit candles and such. Set the mood. If you don't want to run out and buy these things tomorrow then I didn't do my job or maybe zit cream can never be sexy. Probably the former.
It's been a while since my last skin routine post (if I'm not mistaken, December of 2012?) but things haven't changed too radically, but I thought my most recent thoughts on these products might be helpful. At first glance, it seems like overkill but I assure you it's not as bad as it seems. Many of these products I use once a week or less, perhaps even only in certain situations.
L to R: Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil, Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser
This is simply my favorite oil cleanser, this is my fifth bottle. Fantastic makeup remover and really helps loose dried sebum and dead skin cells, you can feel them fall off as you massage them into the skin. Really not pricey but fantastic nonetheless. Used every day if I wear makeup.
Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser is a superb milk cleanser. Refreshes the skin and removes oil yet doesn't strip the skin. Particularly great on my dry cheeks. The price is reasonable ($20) but the one flaw is that this product (and most Avene products I have encountered) smell like stale baby powder. Used morning and night.
L to R: Sana Soymilk Cleanser, Clarisonic Mia
I accidentally bought Sana Soymilk Cleanser when I was looking for a MILK cleanser. Considering that it is a foaming cleanser, it is quite nice. A bit drying if you use more than a small pea. A dried pea. Not scented and cheap (I think ~$7). Works well with Clarisonic Mia, that's really the only time I use it.
Clarisonic Mia. I've used mine for almost three years now, I think. I don't use as heavy coverage makeup as I once did, so I find that I use this brush just once, maybe twice a week following the oil cleanser. I use the delicate head. I feel like I should confess: I rarely change the heads. They never seem fray like a toothbrush does after a couple of month; bristles splayed out. Even after months of use, they look brand new. To keep them clean, I occasionally leave them in a bowl of peroxide. Gross?
L to R: JUJU Aquamoist Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Lotion, Vichy Nutrilogie 2 Intensive Care For Very, Very Dry Skin, Pharmagel DN 24 Hydracreme
The JUJU Aquamoist Lotion is superb, watery in consistency. Great for all over the face application, even on oily skin. Absorbs instantly. Layered with other moisturizers, it boosts skin's moisture.
Vichy Nutrilogie 2. The full name says it all. This is my fouth tub and I'm happy they upgraded the cap to one that doesn't crack. I use this in the fall-winter-spring on my dry areas, even under makeup and before sleep. Really rich, probably too rich for most. $33, non scented.
The Pharmagel Hydracreme is a lighter moisturizer. I use it in the summer all over and in the winter when moisture is a problem, I mix it into foundation to make a sort of tinted moisturizer.
Oh acne. You get your own set of sexy products. T to B: De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment, tee trea oil, Aztec Secret Magic Healing Clay.
I use sulfur as a spot treatment, I've reviewed this in the past... last year? The tea tree oil I use as an overnight treatment on more inflamed pimples. The clay I use sparingly as all over the face mask mixed with water, I add a drop of olive oil so that it doesn't strip too much oil. I use these treatments as needed, perhaps once a month or so.
Koh Gen Do Spa Cleansing Gommage Gel (used 1x a week) is a light exfoliator in the form of a peeling gel. Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre is only used as a barrier cream when I do editorial looks. Avene Micellar Lotion is a micellar water that I've mentioned, works fine but has that dreadful Avene scent. Leonie Konjac Sponges (they just need a full page, ok?).
Hopefully my vingnetting and filters made things a bit more exciting regarding my skincare!
